Hachioji Kuruma Ningyo is a puppet theater company based in the Hachioji neighborhood of Tokyo. The company was named an Intangible Cultural Asset by the city of Tokyo and an Intangible Folk Custom Cultural Asset by the Japanese government.


The use of small carts, kuruma, allows one puppeteer to manipulate each puppet, unlike bunraku,  which several puppeteers for each puppet. They have made several performance videos available for everyone to enjoy from home during this COVID era.
