FDI INTO CANADA HITS 15-YEAR HIGH

The recently released report of foreign domestic investment (FDI) inflows for 2021 shows the highest investment levels Canada has received in 15 years.

Reported at a time when pandemic restrictions are being eased and Canadians are eager for good news, these FDI flows represent a vital boost to the overall economy and are creating quality jobs for Canadians.

Statistics Canada reports net foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows totalled $15.6 billion into Canada for the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2021, bringing total inflows for 2021 to $74.8 billion. Not only is this total 50% higher than

the last 10 years on average, it’s also the highest FDI number seen since 2007—15 years ago.

This result marks the fourth consecutive quarter of positive FDI inflows, which were 20% higher than the 10-year quarterly average of $12.6 billion.
